    Onboarding of Supreme Court of India on NJDG

    The flagship project of the ‘e-Courts project’ completed the full circle with Supreme Court of India on boarding the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) portal today. Under the leadership of Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India, Dr Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, all three tiers of Indian judiciary are now on NJDG portal.

    The NJDG portal is a national repository of data relating to cases instituted, pending and disposed of by the courts across the country. On a click of a button, case related information, statistics such as institution, disposal and pendency of cases, case- types, year-wise break-up of the cases at Supreme Court of India, may now be accessed.

    NJDG has been developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC) in close coordination with the in-house software development team of the Computer Cell, Registry with an interactive interface and analytics dashboard. The entire database shall be periodically updated on the NJDG portal.

    To date the NJDG portal remains unparalleled as a single source of data with a huge potential for high-quality research work and the same is accessible at a click of a button to its citizenry. NJDG is sui generis as it has brought transparency accountability, responsibility and increased coordination within the realm of the Indian judicial system by sharing all relevant data of cases instituted, disposed of and pending. The launch of the NJDG portal has also resulted in informed decision making and optimum deployment of resources and manpower.

    7. CORAM wise pending cases -3 Judges, 5 Judges, 7 Judges, 9 Judges

    As we look at the screen, for the year 2023

    1. Total pendency of registered cases is 64,854 and
    2. Total pendency of unregistered cases is 15,490
    3. Cases instituted in last month were 5,412
    4. Cases disposed in last month were 5,033
