Justice Sanjay Karol

Born on August 23rd August, 1961. Justice Sanjay Karol hails from village Garli – the first heritage village of India, District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. He did his schooling from St. Edwards School, Shimla and obtained a Bachelors Hons. Degree and a degree in Law at the Himachal Pradesh University. He practiced across fora at Delhi and other High Courts. He was appointed Advocate General of the State of Himachal Pradesh in 1998 and served in that capacity till 2003. He was conferred the designation of Senior Advocate by the full court in 1999. He was then elevated as a Judge of the High Court on 8th March, 2007. He served the court for a period of eleven and a half years, including over a year as Acting Chief Justice. Further he was the patron-in-chief of Himachal Pradesh Legal Services Authority and the Chancellor of the Himachal Pradesh National Law University. He was then elevated at the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court on 14th November, 2018. At Tripura, he was also the patron-in-chief of Tripura Legal Services Authority, where he served until his transfer to the High Court of Judicature at Patna on 10th November, 2019. At the Patna High Court, he served for more than three years. At Patna, he was also the patron-in-chief of Bihar Legal Services Authority and the Chancellor of the Chanakya National Law University. He was elevated as the Judge of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India on 6th February, 2023.
