“ADR Vs. Adjudication in Family Disputes: Challenges and Way Forward”
The Committee for Family Court Matters, Supreme Court of India, in association with the Gauhati High Court, is organising a two-day Eastern Zone Regional Conference on “ADR vs. Adjudication in Family Disputes: Challenges and Way Forward” on 26–27 September 2026 at Hotel Radisson Blu, Guwahati. The Conference will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Mrs. Justice B.V. Nagarathna, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chairperson of the Committee for Family Court Matters. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Hon’ble Mr. Justice N.V. Anjaria, Judges of the Supreme Court of India and Members of the Committee, will be the Chief Guests. The inaugural session will be presided over by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ashutosh Kumar, Chief Justice, Guwahati High Court.
The two-day Conference will bring together Judges, judicial officers, senior advocates, mediators and experts for deliberations on key issues concerning justice in family matters, including domestic violence and welfare of senior citizens; Marriage, Divorce & Restitution of Conjugal Rights; custody of children, shared parenting and visitation rights; Maintenance & Alimony and Division & Partition of Property; and strengthening the human resources and infrastructure of Family Courts.
An e-Compendium of judgments of the Supreme Court of India and High Courts of the Eastern Zone on family matters will also be released during the inaugural session.
The Conference will conclude on 27 September 2026 with a Valedictory Session. Hon’ble Mr. Justice N.V. Anjaria will deliver the Keynote Address and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan will deliver the Valedictory Address.
The Conference seeks to facilitate exchange of experiences and best practices for effective, sensitive and timely resolution of family disputes, while exploring the appropriate role of ADR alongside adjudication.
