eCommittee, Supreme Court of India, in collaboration with the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Department of Justice, Government of India, organised the “Flag-Off Ceremony” of Mobile eSewa Vans, taking eCourts services and legal aid directly to citizens’ doorsteps
A “Flag-Off Ceremony” of Mobile eSewa Vans, an initiative of the eCourts Project, was held today, Friday, the 4th of September, 2026, at the AB Lobby, Administrative Buildings Complex, Supreme Court of India, New Delhi, under the joint aegis of the eCommittee, Supreme Court of India, and the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), in collaboration with the Department of Justice, Government of India.
The Mobile eSewa Vans were flagged off by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Chief Justice of India and Patron-in-Chief, eCommittee, Supreme Court of India, in the august presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vikram Nath, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chairman, eCommittee, Hon’ble Mrs. Justice B.V. Nagarathna, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Pamidighantam Sri Narasimha, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Arun Palli, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, R. Venkataramani, Attorney General of India and Justice Anjani Kumar Mishra, Vice Chairman, eCommittee, Supreme Court of India.
Prior to the flag-off of the Mobile eSewa Vans, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Chief Justice of India and Patron-in-Chief, eCommittee, Supreme Court of India, personally inspected and witnessed the comprehensive technological features and infrastructure of the Mobile eSewa Vans. Demonstrating the van’s high-definition video conferencing capabilities and high-speed multi-network connectivity, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India connected live with the High Court and the District Court, directly from Mobile eSewa Van. The live interaction validated the efficacy of the onboard digital systems, establishing the Van’s readiness to conduct seamless remote court proceedings, virtual hearings, and citizen-centric judicial engagements directly from the field.
Twenty-six Mobile eSewa Vans were launched from the Supreme Court of India at today’s ceremony, the first tranche of a larger fleet of 73 Mobile eSewa Vans that will be progressively deployed across designated High Court and District Court jurisdictions across the country.
About the Initiative
The Mobile eSewa Van is designed to bring eCourts services, legal aid, and dispute resolution directly to every citizen, bridging the digital divide and ensuring universal access to justice. Conceived as an extension of the eCourts Project, the initiative seeks to carry the reach of digital justice delivery beyond courtroom walls to villages, tribal regions, and other far-flung areas where physical access to court complexes remains limited.

- Dispute Resolution: Hosts Mobile Lok Adalats and specialised drives for quick, out-of-court settlements.
- Digital Services: Provides seamless digital e-filing, case status lookups, and secure e-payment options.
- Legal Awareness: Offers targeted audio-visual legal literacy programs in local regional languages.
- Remote Facilitation: Enables secure video conferencing facilities for remote court hearings and witness depositions.

- Audio-Visual Setup: High-definition video conferencing facilities, high-quality webcams, intercoms, and public address systems.
- Display Infrastructure: Integrated 32-inch and 43-inch 4K televisions for presentations and remote hearings.
- Power Backup & Security: Onboard power backup infrastructure, including an inverter, battery bank, and generator, supplemented by comprehensive CCTV camera surveillance.
- Citizen Comfort: Air-conditioned, citizen-friendly interior layout featuring comfortable seating and an integrated water dispenser.
Services Offered
- eCourts Citizen Services: Real-time access to case status, next hearing dates, orders, and judgment copies via official mobile applications.
- Filing & Digital Payments: Dedicated e-filing assistance for pleadings, applications and appeals, along with digital payment configurations for court fees.
- Special Drives & Mobile Adjudication: On-the-spot resolution for Motor Vehicle Act challans, pre-litigation settlements, and utility or electricity dispute resolutions.
- Video Conferencing Facilities: Conducts legally valid remote hearings, mediations, witness depositions, and official court proceedings directly from the field.
Project Scale
- Total Fleet Size: 73 Mobile eSewa Vans to be deployed across designated High Court and District Court jurisdictions.
By taking services from courtroom infrastructure directly to the field, the Mobile eSewa Van initiative is expected to dramatically reduce travel time and procedural costs for rural citizens, strengthen public trust in the judiciary, and foster greater digital inclusion in the delivery of justice.
Present on the Occasion
Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court of India and Members of eCommittee, Supreme Court of India also graced the occasion. The ceremony witnessed participation from Shri Bharat Parashar, Secretary General, Supreme Court of India, along with Registrar General, Registrars, and OSDs of the Supreme Court Registry. Shri Niraj Verma, Secretary (Justice), and other senior officials of the Department of Justice, Government of India, were present, as were representatives from NALSA also graced the event. Shri Manan Kumar Mishra, Chairman, Bar Council of India, was also present on the occasion.
