The Mobile eSewa Van initiative is conceived as an extension of the eCourts Project, in keeping with the objectives of the National Policy and Action Plan for Implementation of Information and Communication Technology in the Indian Judiciary (2005). It is designed to bring eCourts services, legal aid and dispute resolution directly to citizens’ doorsteps, bridging the digital divide and ensuring universal access to justice, besides spreading awareness in remote areas.

Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Patron-in-Chief, eCommittee, Supreme Court of India, will flag off the Mobile eSewa Vans at the ceremony. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vikram Nath, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chairman, eCommittee, Supreme Court of India, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Anjani Kumar Mishra, Vice Chairman, eCommittee, Supreme Court of India will also be present on the occasion.

The Mobile eSewa Van seeks to democratise access to justice by bringing eCourts services, Mobile Lok Adalats, digital e-filing, secure e-payments and legal literacy programmes directly to citizens in remote and underserved regions. Equipped with high-speed connectivity, video conferencing facilities and onboard power backup, the vans will also enable secure remote hearings and witness depositions to be conducted from the field.

The ceremony will be attended by Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court of India, senior officials of the Department of Justice, the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Extended Members of the eCommittee, including officials of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the National Informatics Centre (NIC), the Attorney General and Solicitor General of India and the Bar Council of India.

The initiative reflects the continued commitment of the eCommittee and the judiciary as a whole towards leveraging technology to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accessibility in the delivery of justice, in line with the evolving needs of society.
