Justice Vikram Nath

Justice Vikram Nath was born on 24 September 1962. He enrolled with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh on 30 March 1987 and practised as an advocate at the Allahabad High Court for over seventeen years.

He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on 24 September 2004 and took oath as a permanent Judge on 27 February 2006. After serving in the Allahabad High Court for fifteen years, he was appointed Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court on 10 September 2019.

During his tenure as Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, Justice Nath introduced live-streaming of court proceedings, making him the first Chief Justice of a High Court in India to do so. This initiative marked an important step towards the use of technology to enhance transparency and public access to judicial proceedings.

He was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India on 31 August 2021.

Justice Nath has also held significant responsibilities in the administration of justice and the legal-services framework. He served as Chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee and, since May 2025, has served as Chairperson of the e-Committee of the Supreme Court of India, overseeing the use of information and communication technology across the Indian judiciary.

On 24 November 2025, Justice Nath assumed office as Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority. He also serves as Chairman of the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee, which works towards the development and strengthening of mediation as a mode of dispute resolution across the country. In these capacities, he has been associated with initiatives concerning access to justice, free legal aid, legal awareness, mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, particularly for vulnerable and marginalised sections of society.

Justice Nath is due to demit office on 23 September 2027.
