    BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum in India

    Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India to Hold Bilateral Meetings with Judicial Leaders at BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum

    The Supreme Court of India will host the BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum in India in New Delhi from 4 to 6 September 2026, bringing together Chief Justices, Presidents of Supreme Courts and senior judicial leaders from BRICS Member States and Partner Countries.

    The Forum will provide a platform for dialogue among the participating judiciaries and for exchange of views on contemporary issues relating to justice delivery, international dispute resolution, technology and sustainable development.

    Bilateral Engagements

    As part of the Forum, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, The Chief Justice of India, will hold a series of bilateral meetings with heads of judicial delegations on the opening day. The Chief Justice of India will meet judicial leaders from Russia, China, Egypt, Indonesia, the UAE, Belarus, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Iran and Uzbekistan.

    The bilateral meetings will provide an opportunity for direct interaction and exchange of views on matters of mutual judicial interest and will further strengthen engagement among the participating judiciaries.

    The dignitaries scheduled to meet the Chief Justice of India include:

    • H.E. Mr. Igor Krasnov, Chief Justice, Supreme Court of the Russian Federation;

    • H.E. Mr. Zhang Jun, Chief Justice, People’s Republic of China and President, Supreme People’s Court;

    • H.E. Mr. Boulos Gahmy Iskander Boulos, Chief Justice, Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt;

    • H.E. Prof. Dr. Sunarto, S.H., M.H., Chief Justice, Supreme Court of Indonesia;

    • H.E. Mr. Mohammed Hamad Al Badi Al Dhaheri, President, UAE Federal Supreme Court;

    • H.E. Mr. Andrei Shved, Chairman, Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus;

    • H.E. Mr. Aslambek Mergaliyev, Chairman, Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

    • H.E. Ms. Mahube Betty Molemela, President, Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa; and

    • H.E. Ayatollah Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Eje’I, Chief Justice, Islamic Republic of Iran.

    • H.E. Ms. Malikakhon Kalandarova, Deputy Chairperson, Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

    Addresses by Heads of Delegations

    On the second day, Heads of Delegations from BRICS Member States and Partner Countries will address the Forum and share their perspectives on issues of common interest to judicial institutions.

    The Forum will hear from judicial leaders representing Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, South Africa and UAE, along with Partner Countries including Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan.

    Key Themes of the Forum

    The substantive sessions of the Forum will focus on four important areas:

    • Mediation and International Commercial Disputes – examining mediation as a strategic mechanism for resolving international commercial disputes in a globalised economy;

    • Cross-Border Enforcement of Arbitral Awards – discussing challenges in enforcement and the prospects for greater procedural harmonisation;

    • Artificial Intelligence and the Judiciary – exploring digital innovation, Artificial Intelligence and the future of judicial administration; and

    • Judicial Leadership and Sustainable Development – considering the role of the judiciary in ecological governance and the advancement of sustainable energy systems.

    The Forum is expected to encourage closer judicial dialogue, promote exchange of experiences and deepen cooperation among BRICS Member States and Partner Countries on emerging legal and institutional issues.
