Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India holds Bilateral Meetings with Judicial Leaders of Member States and Partner Countries
The Supreme Court of India is hosting the BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum in New Delhi from 4 to 6 September 2026, bringing together Chief Justices, Presidents of Supreme Courts and senior judicial leaders from BRICS Member States and Partner Countries.
As part of the Forum, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, The Chief Justice of India, today held a series of bilateral meetings with heads of judicial delegations on the opening day. The Chief Justice of India will meet judicial leaders from Russia, China, Egypt, Indonesia, the UAE, Belarus, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Iran and Uzbekistan.
The bilateral discussions took place around the issues of:-
- MoU’s for judicial cooperation for strengthening of relation between countries.
- Importance of Mediation and Arbitration in resolving business and corporate disputes, and creating a healthy environment for commercial activities between
- Requirement of efficient commercial courts to enhance trust of foreign investors.
- Possibilities of mutual recognition of judicial awards and decrees.
- Use of State Institutions like The National Judicial Academy Bhopal for professional exchange programmes.
- Exchange of best legal practices of different countries.
- Need for bilateral conferences on laws on contemporary issues.
- Technology advancement integration for increasing efficiency of judiciary specially through AI integration.
- Enhancing people-to-people ties through expeditious judicial processes.
Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India highlighted the importance of the role of the judiciary in constructing coordinated bilateral co-operation and enhancing bilateral ties. He also proposed the building of common platform for Arbitration and Mediation to tackle commercial disputes.
The bilateral meetings were an opportunity for direct interaction and exchange of views on matters of mutual judicial interest and will further strengthen engagement among the participating judiciaries.
The dignitaries who held meetings with the Chief Justice of India today were:
- E. Mr. Igor Krasnov, Chief Justice, Supreme Court of the Russian Federation;
- E. Mr. Zhang Jun, Chief Justice, People’s Republic of China and President, Supreme People’s Court;
- E. Mr. Boulos Gahmy Iskander Boulos, Chief Justice, Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt;
- E. Prof. Dr. Sunarto, S.H., M.H., Chief Justice, Supreme Court of Indonesia;
- E. Mr. Mohammed Hamad Al Badi Al Dhaheri, President, UAE Federal Supreme Court;
- E. Mr. Andrei Shved, Chairman, Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus;
- E. Mr. Aslambek Mergaliyev, Chairman, Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- E. Ms. Mahube Betty Molemela, President, Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa;
- E. Ayatollah Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Eje’I, Chief Justice, Islamic Republic of Iran.
- E. Ms. Malikakhon Kalandarova, Deputy Chairperson, Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India also met all the Delegates from the Member States and Partner Countries today.
Bilateral meetings were also held between other attending member countries and partner countries.
Judicial leaders representing Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, South Africa and UAE, along with Partner Countries including Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan are attending this three day meet.
